The Hockey Fundamentals Program is based on Skate Canada's POWERskate program designed to continue to build on foundational skills of balance, control and agility that are key in hockey development. Players will work on skills such as forwards, backwards, inside & outside edges, stopping & turning to ensure proper use of edges, explosive acceleration, improved lateral movement, increased balance & precise stopping.
Our goal is to help players take their game to the next level through improved skating technique. Participants should have solid and consistent skating abilities. We encourage skaters who have previously participated in the CanPowerSkate program who are looking to refine their skills further to join us for this NEW program developed by our Team of Figure Skating Coaches.
Beginner Hockey Fundamentals (U7/U9) - Participants will be ages 5-8 and must have completed a minimum Stage 1 badge with our CanSkate program or must be able to skate forward & backward unassisted the length of the ice and stop on command. Skaters will continue to learn skills from the CanSkate program until they are proficient enough to begin to learn the PowerSkate skills.
Advanced Hockey Fundamentals (U11/U13) - Participants will be ages 9-12 and must either be a returning TBSA member who has either achieved the minimum Stage 2 badge or higher with our CanSkate program OR has participated in our Hockey Fundamentals program previously & was recommended for this level OR be a fully developed hockey player looking to improve their skating technique & skills.
