PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS:
Parent & Tot
The Parent & Tot program is designed for skaters ages 2+ who have never skated before and who are not ready to be independent on the ice. The goal of the Parent & Tot program is to allow skaters the opportunity to gain confidence with parental support. Parents and Tots must wear a CSA approved hockey helmet and skates. PLEASE NOTE: All PARENTS must wear skates and a CSA approved hockey helmet. The use of "skating aid trainers" is prohibited.
CanSkate
Skaters have mastered the ability to shuffle forward, stand up and balance on their own. Participants will be working on skills from the Stage 1 & 2 Badge levels. Participants must wear a CSA approved hockey helmet and skates. We recommend water resistant type pants and mittens or gloves.
Advanced CanSkate
For Skaters who have participated in a previous CanSkate program. Skaters must have passed the complete Stage 2 Badge. Skaters will be working on skills from the Stage 3 to 6 Badge levels. Partipants must wear a CSA approved hockey helmet and skates. We recommend water resistant type pants and mittens or gloves.
Rising Stars
The Rising STAR program is a learn to figure skate program where participants must wear figure skates. It is designed for skaters who have previously skated with the Academy and who are working on their Stage 2 badge or higher of the CanSkate program. Skaters will take part in an accelerated CanSkate program to complete Stage 2-6. This program is taught by Regional Level Coaches specializing in the STARSkate program.
Hockey Fundamentals (U7) under 7 years old
*MUST BE EITHER A RETURNING TBSA MEMBER WHO HAS ACHIEVED THE COMPLETE STAGE 1 BADGE OR HIGHER OR BE ABLE TO STAND UP/SKATE FORWARD & BACKWARD UNASSISTED (interested in progressing into Hockey/Ringette)
Hockey Fundamentals (U9) under 9 years old
Skaters who have achieved at least a Stage 3 Canskate badge or be able to skate forward, backward and stop completly (interested in progressing into Hockey/Ringette)
Advanced Hockey Fundamentals (U11/U13) = who have achieved at least a Stage 3 Canskate badge or be a fully developed hockey player (interested in progressing into Hockey/Ringette) *skaters younger than 9 years old may be moved into the advanced program upon coach discretion
Pre-CanSkate
The Pre-CanSkate program is designed for any skater (up to age 8) who has not mastered the ability to shuffle forward, stand up and balance on their own. This program is a non-parented class. Therefore, skaters should be able to participate without a parent on the ice. The goal of the Pre-CanSkate program is to introduce skaters to their equipment and ease those who are uneasy about skating. The goal is to work with the skater as they work towards their Pre-CanSkate ribbon. These sessions are taught in a group lesson format both on and off the ice by NCCP Nationally Certified Professional Coaches. Participants must wear a CSA approved hockey helmet and skates. We recommend water resistant type pants and mittens or gloves.
